Policy Change Control

Change control is a formal process of making changes to an infrastructure, information technology system, computer or network. It often works within a change management program and is used to control changes, upgrades and installation of new applications, appliances or systems while reducing unnecessary changes, undoing changes that have already been put in place, and limiting the introduction of faults into the system.

The overall effect of implementing change control in a change management program includes cost-effective use of resources, less system down time, reduction of system back tracking by personnel.
